FIRST Steps After-School
The FIRST Steps After-School program provides clinic-based support for school-age children who benefit from guided practice with homework routines, task completion, emotional regulation, and functional independence.
This program offers a calm, structured environment where children can focus, stay regulated, and build confidence during academic and daily tasks.
How the Program Works
Each child receives one-to-one support from a Behavior Technician under the supervision of a BCBA. Intervention focuses on the specific skills children need for classroom success and smoother routines at home.
Program focus areas include:
- Task initiation and task completion
- Homework support
- Organizational and functional school skills
- Attention and engagement
- Emotional and sensory regulation
- Transitions between activities
- Coping strategies
- Communication during academic activities
- Study habits and daily readiness skills
Hybrid Support: Clinic Based and Home Based
The After-School Program is part of the Autism FIRST hybrid model. Children can receive clinic-based sessions after school hours and home-based support when appropriate, creating consistency across after-school routines, homework time, and daily transitions.
This approach strengthens skill carryover, reduces after-school stress, and supports families in maintaining smoother routines at home.
